Are Medigap Plans Available For People With Health Problems?
If you have a pre-existing health problem, the best thing to do is to apply for Medigap Insurance during open enrollment. During that period, you cannot be denied coverage based on a pre-existing health condition. You won’t even be questioned about your health. Open enrollment lasts for the first six months after you turn 65.
If you have already missed open enrollment, look for a Medicare Advantage Plan in your area. These plans are not available everywhere, but they are available for almost everyone. Pre-existing conditions are accepted, with the exception of End Stage Renal Disease.
Medical underwriting practices do vary among insurance companies. Depending upon the state of your health problem, some insurers may offer you a Medigap Plan for higher than standard premiums or with certain coverage exclusions.
Depending on other circumstances, you may have a chance to get Medicare Supplement Insurance at another time after open enrollment. Give us a call and we’ll investigate your options.
