Philadelphia American Medicare Supplement Plans 2024

Philadelphia American is a trusted name in the Medigap industry, offering Medicare supplement plans that make your Medicare even better. As a member of the New Era Life Insurance Family, Philadelphia American is uniquely equipped with the experience and resources to keep your Medigap rates as low as possible.

Why Philadelphia American Medicare Supplement Plans?

If you’re exploring Medigap plans with Philadelphia American, then you probably already know how important it is to supplement your Original Medicare (Parts A & B).

That’s because Medicare leaves huge gaps in your coverage, leaving you open to massive out-of-pocket charges. We’re talking about basic, critical medical stuff, like:

  • Your Medicare hospital deductible
  • Extended hospital care (Part A runs out after 90 days)
  • Skilled nursing care
  • Medical expenses incurred while traveling abroad
  • First 3 pints of blood

Remember: Any unexpected medical expenses you pay out of pocket are a direct threat to your retirement savings. That’s why it’s important to think of Medigap as a low-cost way to protect not only your health, but also your investments.

What plans are available from Philadelphia American?

Philadelphia American sells all standard Medicare supplement plans except for Plans K and L. However, Plan C and Plan F are both closed to new Medicare participants, as they are with all carriers.

Those looking for the most comprehensive coverage available, with the lowest out-of-pocket medical costs, should consider Plan N, Plan G, and the high-deductible version of Plan G.

Philadelphia American does not sell Medicare Part D or Medicare Advantage plans. If you want coverage for prescription drugs, contact us about enrolling in a separate, stand-alone Medicare Part D prescription drug plan.

Am I eligible for a Philadelphia American Medicare supplement insurance plan?

To enroll in Medicare supplement, you must be enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B, and be age 65 or older.

When can I buy Philadelphia American Medicare supplement insurance?

The best time to buy Medigap insurance is during your initial enrollment period, which is the  6-month period that starts the first day of the month you’re 65 or older and enrolled in Part B.

For example, if you turn 65 and are enrolled in Part B in June, the best time for you to buy a Medigap policy is from June to November.

After this period, you may be subject to medical underwriting. That means that if you have pre-existing medical conditions, you could have to pay more, or you could get declined for coverage altogether.

Some Medicare supplement carriers have stricter underwriting standards than others. Philadelphia American is one of the more lenient carriers in the market when it comes to approving late enrollees. They frequently take applicants that other Medigap carriers have rejected.

However, it is better to sign up during your initial enrollment period, when you have guaranteed approval, rather than wait until your premiums are higher and you stand a chance of getting denied coverage altogether.

Good Coverage, Some Suggestions for Enhancement

Rated 4.0 out of 5
February 16, 2024

It offers good coverage options with competitive premiums. I’ve found the network of providers to be extensive, allowing me to choose healthcare services that suit my needs. While I’m generally satisfied with the plan, there are a few suggestions for improvement. For example, enhancing the mobile app for easier access to account information and implementing more personalized customer support could enhance the overall experience.

Excellent Coverage and Service

I’ve had a positive experience with Philadelphia American Medicare Supplement Plans overall. The coverage provided has been comprehensive, and I appreciate the ease of access to healthcare services. The customer service representatives have been helpful and knowledgeable. However, there are a few areas where I believe there’s room for improvement, such as enhancing the online portal for easier navigation and streamlining the claims process for faster reimbursements. Overall, a great plan with potential for even greater satisfaction.

We’ve had Philadelphia American Medigap for years and finally had a claim. Just wanted to say kudos to the team at Philadelphia American and New Era Life insurance, their parent company.

I had to go to the ER and had a six day hospitalization afterwards for a kidney infection and Philadelphia American paid everything right away, no problems. Even my doctor’s bill which came later because he charged more than the Medicare standard reimbursement rate got paid as soon as we forwarded his bill to them.

Thank you, Philadelphia American!

Need to get with the 21st century

It’s 2023. Why does Philadelphia American/New Era have a website with 1995 functionality? I can’t get anything done. They manage to bill me ok, but when I need to check on something via the website it’s like I’m running Netscape on a Radio Shack Tandy running Windows 3.1.

It wasn’t a problem for years because I didn’t have any medical problems. Now that I have a problem I can’t do anything electronically.
