Aetna Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Who is eligible for Medicare supplement insurance?
You may be eligible for Medicare supplement insurance if:
- You are age 65 or older
- You have a qualifying disability for which you have been receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) for more than 24 months
- You have been diagnosed with end-stage renal disease (permanent kidney failure requiring a kidney transplant or dialysis).
What Medigap plans does Aetna sell?
Currently, Aetna sells plans A, B, F, G, a high-deductible Plan G, and N.
Plan F is not available to new enrollees.
They do not sell plans C, D, K, L, or M. If you’re looking for one of these other plans, contact Medigap Advisors for a recommendation.
Does Aetna Medicare supplement insurance cover skilled nursing care?
Aetna sells three plans to new enrollees that help pay for skilled nursing and rehab care for up to 90 days following a qualifying hospitalization: Plans D, G, and N. Aetna also operates Plan C and F, which also cover Medicare-qualifying skilled nursing and rehab care. But those two plans are closed to new enrollees.
Neither Medicare nor Medicare supplement insurance covers long-term custodial care for chronic conditions. To pay for that, you may want to consider long-term care insurance, or a hybrid life and long-term care insurance policy.
Does Aetna have a high-deductible Medicare supplement plan available?
Yes. It’s a variation of Plan G, which is a comprehensive Medicare supplement plan that covers all out-of-pocket costs for Medicare-qualified services except for the Part B deductible, which is $233 as of 2024.
Plan G is the most comprehensive Medicare supplement plan available to new enrollees. It also has the highest premiums. But you can pay a much lower premium with the high-deductible Plan G. As of 2024, the annual deductible for this plan is $2,490.
Once you meet that deductible for the year, the high deductible Plan G will pay all your out-of-pocket costs for Medicare-approved services. The $233 deductible for Part B will still apply.
